This year's Hugo Award finalists were announced about an hour ago.
It's a good list this year, only a couple of real turds and some truly excellent options.
Best Dramatic Long: HIDDEN FUCKING FIGURES. That one is winning OR ELSE I WILL TURN THIS CAR AROUND I'm just saying.

I think the heart o' fandom is on Arrival, but I have been wrong at least once before in my life...
I can't believe The Martian beat Fury Road. I mean, seriously, how many people have ever watched The Martian *twice*? Fury Road is infinitely rewatchable because it's just plain more fun.
I've watched The Martian a couple of times. While I'll agree with you that Fury Road is more fun, I've only watched it once. It does not have the geek appeal that The Martian has. I think Arrival has the same geek appeal, as does Ted Chiang.
You are history's greatest monster.

2 hours of driving recklessly. *studies shadows tv is throwing on the wall*
The funniest part is still "what, why is that guy suddenly on their side?" "His pc died with a botched dex roll, the GM didn't want to drop him from the game so gave him an NPC"

You and I know entirely different categories of geek ;-)
