I've not read any of Mr. Stross' oeuvre, but this reminded me of the SCP foundation (which is as bad a timesink as TVTropes).


... so, does this mean SCP is inspired by Stross?
And what Stross should I read first?

For things specifically like that, you want The Laundry Files, starting at The Atrocity Archives (the first, and weakest, of the bunch) then passing through The Jennifer Morgue, The Fuller Memorandum, The Apocalypse Codex, and another one scheduled for next year (The Rhesus Chart). Two novellettes in the series are available for free online:

The entire series is about the British intelligence agency tasked with saving the world from squamous things from other dimensions. It's Len Deighton meets Men In Black meets The Call Of Cthulhu.
