Did any of you seriously expect better?
EDIT: Added more of the quote, for context. Without the context, it could be (and was, at least once) read as "Women should be badgered because that's the only way some of them will say yes, and that's silly. Women who say no more than once should be raped", instead of the more accurate "Women should be badgered because that's the only way some of them will say yes, and that's silly. That attitude causes rapists, and so women with that attitude should be made to stop. Because men won't understand."
The attitude is still repugnant, but the repugnant message is clearer.

A mayor in ALABAMA is an idiot? Inconceivable!
[Birmingham Mayor Larry] Langford on Tuesday spoke of plans to buy 2,000 burlap sacks for the city.
Langford wants to use the sacks in a citywide prayer service designed to reduce crime. They are to be worn and handed out by clergy because sackcloth and ashes are mentioned time and again in the Bible, where the humble, grief-stricken and repentant put on such sacks, smudge their faces and pray.
"If you don't want to pray, fine," he has said, responding to claims he blurs the line between church and state. "Just keep your evil self away from me because it's hard enough dealing with Christians anyway."

A quick followup on Tony Zirkle, Republican who doesn't know what "Nazi" means
Metafilter has an article on the guy that includes some interesting comments.
Particular, this one from Zirkle: "Let's save our Jewish brothers and sisters from this tyrant king porn dragon before we get to another world-wide pogrom."
Which leads to "Tyrant King Porn Dragon would make a cool band name" from a commentor, which twigged something in my brain.
And it took me a moment.
"Tyrant King", "Dragon".
"Tyrant King".
Tyrannosaurus Rex?
That's right, the guy appears at a birthday party for Hitler but doesn't realise that the "National Socialist" group that's putting it on might be Nazis - but, in the process, he manages to slip in a pretty CLEVER reference to dinosaurs-as-dragons.
Which, as you might be familiar with, is a REALLY common tactic for creationists!
Which means I think he was misquoted. I think what he REALLY said was "Let's save our Jewish brothers and sisters from this tyrant king porn dragon before we get to another world-wide pogrom. Duh, I eat poop!"
