[Link] | High-schooler sues school board based on grounds of bias against male students: "The system is designed to the disadvantage of males," Anglin said. "From the elementary level, they establish a philosophy that if you sit down, follow orders, and listen to what they say, you'll do well and get good grades. Men naturally rebel against this."
That's right. He just said that since boys won't follow rules, a system that punishes breaking rules must naturally be biased against boys.
iocaste212 destroys the argument snarkily in a way that I would really have to quote in it's entirely to do it justice. I'll just link to her instead.

The privately-owned Nettwerk Music Group is intervening, it says, because the songs downloaded by the Gruebel family include Avril Lavigne, a Nettwerk management client.
"The current actions of the RIAA are not in my artists' best interests," said Nettwerk chief executive Terry McBride in a statement.

Also,

Also, Florida man charged with felony assault for punching out a teacher's assistant after his 15-year-old daughter accused the assistant of molesting her. The catch: The girl admitted that she was lying, she made the whole thing up, and she was claiming assault because the TA caught her pouring Coke out a window on another student. How to tell it's Florida: The father was named "Father Of The Year" by a radio station for it.
Also,
 AAAAH! DEMON CHILDREN!

Their geek-fu is strong. James Nicoll (and, in comments, Charlie Stross) address the Fermi Paradox and one interesting way to have non-human life evolve in the galaxy with practical insterstellar travel without it having already overrun us.
